What is REAL?

The R.E.A.L. (Real Estate Analytics Lab) is run by Marco Giacoletti and Davide Proserpio.

Marco is an Associate Professor of Finance at the University of Notre Dame, and Davide is an Associate Professor of Marketing at USC. Both are experts in housing and real estate markets.

REAL is an independent initiative that offers data-driven insights and research on real estate markets. We regularly publish brief articles, featuring either original analyses of new data or discussions of recent research co-authored by Marco or Davide. Our goal is to make rigorous housing-market research accessible to a broader audience.

Why subscribe?

Most writing about housing is either a press release or a paywalled paper. R.E.A.L. is the space in between: we take a dataset — transit turnstiles, building permits, census microdata, grocery store locations — and show you what it says about how cities and housing markets actually work.

We’re two academics who do this research for a living, which means we can tell you where the data is weak as readily as where it’s strong. No forecasts, no hot takes, no lead-gen.
